As of May 2011, I am a graduate of Michigan State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Interior Design as well as a Bachelor of Arts in English. Studying at Michigan State University has allowed me to explore interests and expand my base of knowledge. The past five years have been incredibly rewarding and I look forward to applying all that I have learned in the professional world of design. Many people scratch their heads at my choice in majors, asking why I would choose those two. I chose two things that I was most passionate about in the hopes that I could find a fulfilling profession that would allow me to explore my creativity. In truth, I have found that my majors relate more to each other than people think. With English, I chose a specialization in Creative Writing. In my classes, I have spent time reading and writing poetry, fiction and non-fiction, and expanding on my verbal and written communication skills. With Interior Design I spent my days in studios working with AutoCad, Revit, Photoshop and other computer programs, expanding on my computer skills and other abilities such as space planning, programming, critical thinking, code review and material selection. In my life, the two have always gone hand in hand. I started writing stories and drawing floor plans as a kid, always having a story for the family that would live in the house and always having a house for the families in my stories. A house, to me, has always been a platform for a story. Each one has their own tale and each room is a canvas for telling the stories of the people that live within it. For me, interior design has always been another way of telling stories.
When not in class, I have enjoyed exploring the beautiful campus of Michigan State and found that nothing clears the mind like a good, long walk through nature. I love to read and write, exploring different worlds through words. I believe in the importance of creativity and imagination and have always enjoyed exploring the two.
